Came on a Sunday night. We did not have a reservation and they were full, but the hostess sat us with clear instructions that we must be done in one hour. We said okay and we were seated. Food came out quickly after we ordered. We ordered the chirashi bowl, unagi bowl and an assortment of bellies and chutoro and otoro.

The great: ohhh that otoro and chutoro... I miss it already. Its priced correctly and very fresh. It melts in your mouth.

The okay: the bellies and unagi bowl were on par with other sushi joints.

The bad: MUST NOT get the chirashi bowl. The quality of the fish were subpar as compared to their a la cart selections. If I can rename this bowl, I will call it the leftover bowl. This is the worse chirashi bowl I had ever had in my life.

Best sushi in San Diego! WARNING: It will ruin average sushi for you. The first time around we ordered the Tokusen Sushi and Crunchy Salmon Roll. We also wanted to order Uni sushi pieces, but they were completely out. The server mentioned Uni is a very popular and limited dish.

The Tokusen Sushi was delicious and fresh. Loved the variety. It's perfect for one person. The Crunchy Salmon Roll was one of the best rolls I've ever had. The spicy salmon on top melts in your mouth with a light kick. The shrimp tempura and salmon on the inside perfectly compliments the spicy salmon.

The second time around we ordered the Crunchy Salmon Roll and Uni. The Uni pieces are definitely an experience. Spoiler Alert! This sushi LITERALLY melts in your mouth. It's instant, similar to cotton candy, but smoother. Definitely recommend!

TIP: Make sure to call in for a reservation. The chances of walking in and getting a table without a reservation are slim to none.

OMG SO FREAKING GOOD. I had heard this was the best sushi place in SD, and it did not disappoint.

My fiance and I came here on a Saturday night, and it was poppin! Thankfully we had a reservation at 8:15pm and only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at the bar. We chatted with all the sushi chefs who were super knowledgable and friendly, and it was a great time.

The fish is TO DIE FOR. Soooo good and fresh. Apparently most of it is from Japan. We got some nigiri, and our favorite by far was the salmon belly- we even ordered a second one! We were originally just getting regular salmon, but Kaz, the sushi chef, recommended the salmon belly and it was sooooo good. I can't wait to go back and get the "belly sampler" sashimi platter. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!!

We also got 3 rolls, all of which were delicious. Our favorite was the jalapeno salmon (even though I took the jalapeno of f of mine because I don't like spicy food), but it was so good with salmon and scallops NOM NOM. We also got the crunchy salmon which is their most popular roll (they are known for salmon there), and it was also delicious. Then we got the poke roll which was a spicy tuna and avocado roll with poke on top. It was kind of aggressive, but really good.

Yes it is expensive but everything was amazing and I can't wait to go back.

Just thinking about this heaven sent oasis makes my mouth water. Talk about FRESH. And authentic!
I can not say enough positive things about this gem. The staff is very polite and professional. I feel like I'm in Japan as my waitress poured our sake for us before she bowed and walked away.
The sashimi here is phenomenal. So fresh and buttery. It's pure seafood heaven. Some of my many favorite dishes here would have 1. The belly sashimi sampler platter. However, Otoro (tuna belly) is the winner of that dish. Then tied at 2nd would be the uni (sea urchin) nigiri and the seared tuna nigiri... BUTTER!!! If you're feeling really brave, you can ask the chef to make you whatever he wants. Last time we did he gave us tentacles and octopus nigiri so make sure to mention if anything is off limits.

If you truly enjoy seafood (I'm not talking California roll ) then this is a MUST try. KANPAI!
